Brothers in Arms

Information about book

This publication is dedicated to those Civil War veterans who were Freemasons, and who are buried in Buffalo’s historic Forest Lawn Cemetery, and for those interested in Freemason history.

There are nearly 170,000 residents listed in Forest Lawn since 1850. Militarily speaking, Forest Lawn has military veterans from the American Revolution to present day conflicts. The American Civil War had taken its toll on Buffalo residents as well as the surrounding communities of Western NY.

There are well over 3000 known and documented Civil War dead buried at Forest Lawn. I found many of them over the past 10 years to create a database of the Civil War dead. Of that number, I documented and researched nearly 100 soldiers who served during the Civil War, who were Freemasons. There are others, which I am working on, but that is for another day as information becomes available.

I personally researched and wrote a short biography on each one of those soldiers to share with our Masonic brothers, as well as those interested in history of the War Between the States. I hope that this publication will be interesting and enlightening for those interested in this part of our American history.
Listed with each biography, are photos of their grave (if available) and where possible a picture of the veteran. Also in each biography, is a short narrative about their early life: parents, spouse, what is known about their military service, post year activities and what is known about their death and burial.

I hope everyone enjoys my contributions to Freemasonry and history.
